And suddenly the heavens open.
There is a gentle sigh,
then raindrops pummel the grateful ground.
Faster they beat down,
you hear the splash of drops
coming quick in succession.
It becomes deafening and the beat on the ground
drums to the waterfall of cascading rain.
Rivulets flow and the red earth gives thanks.
Tiny flotillas of leaves dock along the pavement shores.
The rains are here at last.
